Green Mango and Bagoong Ice Cream is so good!

I haven't been blogging much lately, sorry for that! Real life and being back at work has just temporarily stunted my creative brain cells.

But I tried a dessert today, that's so good, it inspired me to blog again... so I could share it!

Sebatian's Green Mango Sorbet with warm Bagoong (Shrimp Paste)
Php140 or around SG$4

I had dinner with my siblings at Yaku, a Japanese Grill at Podium and it was okay. We'll probably come back, but the pleasant surprise was dessert. After dinner, both Timmy and Ady wanted to get Ice Cream from Sebastian's. I've heard them mention the place before, but since I'm not really overly fond of Ice Cream, I wasn't too keen. I normally am happy enough bumming a spoon or two from someone else's order.

I even brought Sofia to Toy Kingdom, did some errands in National Bookstore, then I met up with them.  Ady was already half into her Midnight Truffle Burger which I bit from but it was too rich for me. I was really intrigued by the Green Mango and Bagoong Flavor that I asked to try it, and I was blown away! It was soooo good. It called out to the OFW in me. Hahaha. Only because an OFW normally feels deprived since Green Mango and Shrimp Paste is not easy to find in other countries.

This was the ad that made me want to try it.

Unfortunately, I couldn't convince my brother to order it so I could do my normal modus operandi of bumming a few bites.
He ordered Blueberry Cheesecake instead.
one scoop Php100 (around SG$3)

The taste of the Green Mango Sorbet with Bagoong was so good, I knew that the thought of it would haunt me and if I didn't order it, I would crave for it. I decided to just save myself the trouble and order it and I was so happy I did.

I am not really a Bagoong (shrimp paste) fan,
so I only eat it when it has no fishy taste. This one was perfect.

The Green Mango sorbet has just the right amount of tartness, that it makes my mouth water just thinking about it. They serve the Bagoong warmed up, so it's a nice contrast of cold and sour, with warm and salty. I asked them to serve the shrimp paste on the side so I could control how much shirmp paste I wanted with every bite, and I also ate bites in between with only the sorbet to cleanse my palate. It was green mango heaven!

Sebastian's is a scooping station on the 4th Floor of Podium.
In addition to scooping, the also have Magnum-shaped gourmet bars,
Ice Cream Burgers (big sandwiches!) and Ice Cream Pizza (more like pie).
They have normal flavors like Cookie Dough, Butter Pecan etc.
and Artisan flavors (more expensive) like Green Mango & Bagoong which I loved.
Their other weird flavors include Frozen Taho (really taste like the real thing),
Sapin-Sapin and Once In a Blue Moon (Artisan flavor: Blue cheese with Walnuts and Honey).
The Ice Cream Bars and Ice Cream Burgers.
These were the remnants of Ady's Midnight Truffle Burger.
Size is best for sharing because it's really hard to eat it all. Hahaha.
I tried to share mine with Fif,
but I think she found it too sour.
Hahaha. This is after attempting to eat more.
The good thing is you can just keep trying the flavors before you decide
which one to order. This was the Sapin Sapin one.
So, What's your flavor?

Green Mango and Bagoong is my flavor. It's so good, I think the next time I crave for Green Mango and Bagoong, I'll want it in Ice Cream form. Just Saying.

We love Saboten's Tonkatsu and Goma Salad Dressing

SINGAPORE SERIES

Saboten is my favorite Tonkatsu place in Singapore because aside from it's really Tonkatsu, I love their bottomless shredded cabbage with Goma (sesame) Dressing. When I was in the Philippines a few months back, one of the new restaurants getting a lot of hype was Yabu because they were one of the first in the Philippines with the Tonkatsu concept. I wasn't really very happy with our visit because they compromised on their Goma Dressing, watering it down so it came across tasting like cheap-mayo with some sesame essense. For someone pretending NOT to eat carbs like me, the quality of my salad is as important as my main course. Anyway, I digress, you can read my post on Yabu here, so now back to Saboten.

Saboten is a Japanese Chain present different countries like Singapore, Hong Kong and Korea.
Almost all their meals are a variation of Tonkatsu.
They have the sesame seeds you grind for the sauce.
Sofia loves doing this.
There are a lot of Tonkatsu restaurants in Singapore because
they have the best Goma dressing and they are not stingy with it.
Sofia's standard order is the Kid's meal in the Miffy plate.
The plate, cabbage and dressing are always served cold.
It's so yummy. I can finish a serving bowl on my own and more.
I think we ordered the Saboten Special (to share with yaya).
Tenderloin, Pork Loin with Fat, Crab Cream Croquette and Ebi.
She gets the rice, I get the greens and we share the other stuff.
Ady and Carol ordered a Pork and Ebi Tonkatsu set.
The Ebi Tonkatsu is normally seasonal and is very good.
The shrimp pieces are big and it doesn't look like they put in a lot of extenders.
This is the difference between the Pork Tenderloin and Pork Loin (with fat).
They are both good.
Then they have the Tonkatsu sauce that you add to the ground sesame.
Green Tea to finsh off your meal.

All main course orders in Saboten come with refillable Rice, Shredded Cabbage, Goma Dressing and a serving of Miso Soup, Hot or Iced Green Tea, and a scoop of Green Tea Ice Cream. A set meal would roughly cost SG$20-25 (Php700-850) but in my experience, an order would be more than enough for one person. You can opt to share a bigger main course, and just order free flowing Rice, Cabbage and Soup for a token fee.

Saboten is inside Parco Marina Bay (P3-01 in the Department Store)
in Millenia Walk, #9 Raffles Blvd
Open 11.30am-10.00pm

The good thing about Saboten's location is that there is a Cafe Ma Maison on the ground floor of Parco, so don't stuff yourself too much with Tonkatsu, because the pies in Cafe Ma Maison are to die for. Just Saying.

We had to take away our pies and eat them at home because we were too full.

Richmonde Weekend Buffet

Last weekend, my friends and I tried out the lunch buffet at Richmond Hotel in Eastwood City. We met at 12noon on a Sunday, so in my mind, we met for brunch. Hahaha. Though to be honest, the menu was more of a lunch spread.

These are my friends from school, together with their significant others.
Our family keeps getting bigger and bigger with more babies on the way.

I sat beside Tim, who's eating style is to get lots of the dishes that he likes.
This is his Salmon sashimi course.
Or should I say, one of his Salmon courses. Hahaha.
Frank's style is to just get a lot. Period.
Hahaha... but he shares naman.
Tiana getting from Frank's plate of prawn tempura.
I got "no-carb" batchoy (innards) soup.
The noodles come on the side so I didn't get any.
It was ok, but there was a spicy bite to it that you normally don't expect in batchoy.
Kim and Frank with their starters.
I got california maki, seafood salad, cheese tart and cheese dumpling as my starters.
My main course was prime rib and salad.
It's best to ask them to slice fresh prime rib,
then ask them to grill it for a bit so it's served hot.
Thanks for the giveaways Vice and Faith :)
Viele and Sofia had Choco Crisp from Auntie Tiana.
Frank's second plate of tempura.
Chipsy's Prime Rib and salmon sashimi.
Viele enjoyed the chocolate fountain.
The lunch buffet includes coffee or tea.

The Richmonde Weekend Hotel Buffet for lunch and dinner is valued at Php1080, but I know that they also get featured sometimes on online deal websites where you can buy them for 50% off. Vice and Frank treated us to lunch to celebrate their birthdays in August and July so I'm not sure how much we really paid per head, but I would say that everyone enjoyed the assortment, and they had high value items on the menu that was good like the prawn tempura, prime rib and salmon sashimi. It's also a nice place to hang out and chat, since there are also not a lot of people. Another plus is that kids eat for free and they don't threaten to charge you double if you don't finish everything on your plate. I hate places that do that!

Happy Birthday Vice! Hope you liked your gifts!
Kaden and Sofia and the aunties.
Happy birthday Frank!
It looks like you liked your gifts :)
The gang and kids.
The Single and Ready to Mingle ones. Hahaha...
Sofia and the Ninang ng Bayan, Ninang Faith.
It looks like someone ate too much prawn tempura.
Fif with Ninang and Mom.
Kiddos playing at the hotel lobby after lunch.

Thanks for lunch again Frank and Vice!!! Hope you all had good brithdays... we sure had a good time catching up and eating last Sunday! Just Saying.
