Charlie Brown Café Hong Kong

I'm a sucker for cute cafés, so we were quite excited to try out Charlie Brown Café across our hotel in Hong Kong, especially when Reena said that our rooms at Park Hotel Tsim Sha Tsui came with one free coffee at Charlie Brown Café everyday. Hooray for freebies.

We finally got a chance to try it out on our last day before leaving, even if we had to drag ourselves out of bed to do it.

Charlie Brown Cafe is on Ashley Road
The store front is small but the place is quite big when
you climb up to the second floor.

They did a good job on ambiance.

The best part about character cafes is you get served really cute food.
I got a Linus Latte because Sofia got a more complicated character.

I think the breakfast set meals were just ok. But Reena and Umi has really yummy looking risotto-like rice meals that made me very envious.

I wouldn't mind coming back next time we're in Hong Kong, even if there's no free coffee. just saying.

TOMO hole in the wall Japanese

I've heard people rave about TOMO, the hole in the wall place in San Juan, which is rumored to have the chef of Sugi (which is no longer open in the Greenhills complex). We finally got to try it a few months ago and I wasn't really impressed.

It was very busy, and there was quite a long line. Good thing my brother and his wife, who invited us, arrived early and reserved a table for our whole group.
Timmy recommended the baked oysters, which were good, except I'm not
really an oyster fan, unless they happen to be exceptional.
We had the classics, Spicy Tuna Salad and some rolls.
They were ok.
The salmon tempura roll looked better, but I don't
eat salmon so I skipped this.
We ordered Beef Teppanyaki, and I think this was good
value for the quality of the beef, but unfortunately they
really failed with the seasoning because it was quite bland.

Good thing you can always count on Tempura to be good.

Over-all I think the food was just ok. I don't think I'll be visiting this hole in the wall again, unless my brother and sis-in-law are treating. just saying.

Guangdong Roast Duck Hong Kong

Guangdong Barbeque was one of new restaurants we tried on our last trip to Hong Kong. It's actually one the the favorite restaurants of Jem's family so we were very happy to try it out.

They have the standard roasts, which they serve with a generous serving of ginger sauce.
You can't go wrong with the classic Roast Duck and they do it quite well here.
Their BBQ Pork Charsiew is cooked in a different "cleaner" style.
I'd say it's more similar to ham then the traditional way charsiew is prepared.
Since we came in for brunch, we ordered a scrambled egg with shrimp
omelette too and some veggies (not in photo).
The good thing about Guandong is they are used to people buying
food to take home, so you can order in advance, and they will pack it for you,
ready to be picked up at the agreed time.

I know there is a difference between Roast Duck and Roast Goose, but I personally can't taste it. If you're not particular like me, I would definitely recommend Guangdong over Yatlok Roast Goose, because the service there really sucks (based on our last visit) and they don't make Roast Goose exceptionally well enough for us to stand and accept crap service. just saying.

Desserts from The Bakehouse by Carpenter and Cook

When I travel to Singapore for work, I normally stay at Park Hotel Alexandra due to it's proximity to the office. The location is quite nice because it's beside IKEA, across Anchorpoint and there are a lot of good hawker places within walking distance.

With so many eating options to choose from, I've always wanted to try The Bakehouse by Carpenter and Cook, a hipster looking cafe right beside the hotel, but I have never gotten a chance to do so, until our last trip.

It was an easy decision to come here for dessert after grabbing some dinner at the hawker place across the street. So easy in fact, that we actually came here twice.

The first time around we had the Passionfruit Meringue Tart
around SG$650 which was really very good.

On our second visit, since there were more of us, we also had the
Caramel Chocolate Tart also around SG$6.50. Again, it was excellent.

And the Passionfruit Meringue Tart again to share.

Coffee and Tea are quite pricey (for PH standards at around SG$5 a cup). I found it even more expensive for tea, especially if you're just staying at Park Hotel where the Gryphon Tea is free, and especially if you compare it to the price of the desserts, which are big enough for 2 to share, but that's just me. Sometimes I'm a really cheapskate. just saying.
