Comfort Chinese Food at Din Tai Fung

SINGAPORE SERIES

Din Tai Fung is an international chain originating from Taiwan with branches in Australia, the US, China, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Indonesia and of course in Singapore. They are famous for Xiao Long Bao (Soupy Pork Dumplings).

An order of 10 pieces is SG$9 ++ (Php306) and an order of 6 pieces if SG$6.50++ (Php221)
If you look closely, you'll see that the dough is so thin, you can actually see the soup, yet the dough is thick enough that it's pretty easy to handle the dumplings so that you get to taste all the soup when you bite into it. If you're a Xiao Long Bao purist, you'll enjoy this. It's yummier if dipped in vinegar before you eat it. However, if you've tried and like the flavored Xiao Long Baos of Paradise Dynasty which I wrote about here, you may find Din Tai Fung on the bland side. Just Saying.

We also like the Pork Chop Fried Rice which really hits the spot if you are looking for some comfort food. The pork is very tender and tasty as it's seasoned simply with salt and pepper. It's a perfect complement to the egg fried rice. Every time I eat in Din Tai Fung, I totally forget that I limit my carbs intake. It's that good!!!

We normally just order Xiao Long Bao and Pork Chop Fried Rice in huge quantities, depending on how many and how hungry we are. Though sometimes we also try other things.  Here are some of the things we ordered, for a change.

Pork Rolls (cold-cuts) for starters, I think the sauce has hoisin because it was a bit sweet
Pork and Prawn Wanton Dumplings
This one was okay, but it tasted quite ordinary.

Sorry, I didn't order and I didn't pay the bill so I'm not reall sure what they're called and how much they are.

DIN TAI FUNG has many branches in Singapore
My favorite branch is the one in Basement 2 of 313@somerset because for some reason, I've never had to queue there. The one is Wisma Atria (also on Orchard Road) always has a long queue and when we were at The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands it looked pretty busy too.

The Din Tai Fung Franchise in Singapore is owned by the Breadtalk group. You can visit their website here, but it's not really very informative. Just Saying.
