When I planned our summer holiday to Turkey and Greece last year, we needed to spend a last night in Athens, to catch our flight home, after our wonderful Greek Island getaway to Hydra, which you can read about here, so we decided to stay in Mati instead, a resort destination within the same distance to the airport where we could enjoy another part of Greece.
For a place which is less than 30 minutes drive away from Athens, Mati was remarkably quiet with a chill resort town vibe. We found good rates at Aquis Aquamarina Hotel and we were quite happy with our accommodations.
Our room had a big balcony with a lovely view of the sea.
The room was big and comfortable, even if it looked a little bit dated.

We enjoyed a hearty late lunch, availing of buffet at the hotel restaurant.

Spent the afternoon relaxing by the pool, then enjoyed the view and sunset from our balcony.
Like every resort town, there are a lot of restaurant options nearby, so we chose one with seafood options, but I'm happy enough with fried calamari if you ask me.
We couldn't get enough of our usual faves.

Keep this place in mind if you need a short getaway from life in Athens. just saying.
