Welcome to Singapore Dimsum at 126 Sims (Open 24 hours)

We were only in Singapore for 72 hours, but it was such an eventful 3 days that it's only now that I've recovered enough to have energy to download pictures and blog about it.

We left Thursday night - right after school and work,
so we were already tired to begin with.
Good thing we had an airport pick-up with a pink sign!

Our budget airline flight arrived at 12:30am, so we were starving when we landed, even if we managed to eat well at the lounge before we boarded. We asked Tim to take us directly to have a late dinner, so we went with all our luggage.

Dimsum 126 has outdoor tables and looks like this.
They have a display Chinese pastries.
and you can also see the guy preparing DimSum orders outside.
They also have indoor seating.
The place is still crowded even at 1am.
We trusted Tim to order for us.
Ordering is a challenge because there are only pictures and
Chinese characters. You order by number.
If you're lucky, you can find a Chinese speaking server.
Tim ordered dishes that he's tried before. If you trust our taste, you can order the same numbers that we wrote above. I was really craving for Taro (or Yam as it's called in Singapore) Puff so I managed to get someone to tell me that what I wanted as number 41 (above).
Tim ordered century egg and shredded pork congee.
The bowl is an odd shape, taller and deeper than normal.
The toppings were generous enough.
My heart sank when I saw my yam balls.
They looked so sad.
It's only when you bite into it, and discover that it has char siew or
asado
(BBQ Pork) in the center, that you realize how good it is.
We all ordered Sugar Cane Lime Juice.
Sofia was shocked when it was served in the round take out containers.
We ordered some siomai, ha kaw and vegetable rolls.
The siomai was so good. It was big, fat and juicy, with each piece
having a big shrimp in the middle.
We even ordered an additional order.
I wasn't really enthusiastic about the veggie roll Tim ordered until I tried it.
The middle is a whole piece of baby corn.
Eating it was a pleasant surprise because it tasted light and refreshing.
The ha kaw looked small and shriveled, but Sofia
ate more than 1 order by herself so it must be good.
Tim also ordered this extra fried thing, with flaky pastry and mystery meat.
It's the only one I didn't like, but he did warn us that it was oily.
We also ordered some Mango Spring Rolls.
Imagine Mango Turon. Sofia also liked this one
but I honestly prefer the banana and jackfruit version.

On our way out, I realized that they had char siew puffs (asado or BBQ pork pastry puffs) so we bought some for breakfast the next day because we were so full.
I thought they were so cheap at 80cents,
but even at that price, they're just not worth the calories.

Our total bill was around SG$40 for 9 orders of dim sum including the congee and 4 drinks. It's very reasonable for the quality of food that they serve, save for the oily thing.

As a landmark, this big Durian store
is right across the street from 126 Dimsum.
