Bake Cheese Tarts from Japan. Now in Hong Kong.

If you remember the Din Tai Fung Craze... when everyone who went to Hong Kong brought home BBQ Pork Buns, the Bake Cheese Tart Craze is something similar. Bake calls them "The Best Cheese Tart Ever in your life.".

Bake Cheese Tarts are originally from Japan. My friend Anna told me that they were worth looking for and trying, and fortunately, they have recently been expanding in Hong Kong, Thailand and Singapore.

They recently opened Bake Cheese Tart in Hong Kong at the Basement 2 of Sogo in Causeway Bay, somewhere in the middle of the supermarket, towards one of the side walls with the other food stalls. You just need to follow the Bake directional signs they have hanging from the ceiling.

This place sells nothing but Baked Cheese Tarts.
HK$20 per piece. HK$110 for a box of 6.

Ady and I bought one to share (because we were still full)
to see what the fuss was all about.
Oh. Heaven.

Now I get it. The best description I can come up with is it tastes like a cheese souffle meets New York Cheesecake filling complete with sour cream topping. We though it was good enough to go back for next trip, but not good enough to carry home, as we weren't sure how easy it was to travel with the souffle-like consistency filling, but clearly, not a lot of people felt the same way, because I swear have our flight had the bright yellow Bake Take Away paper bags. The lady beside me even brought out one cheese tart to have it for dessert during the flight.

I've heard that lines are long for Bake Cheese Tart in Central World and emQuartier in Bangkok (where they sell for 80Baht per piece) and ION Orchard in Singapore (where they sell for SG$3.50). Get them from Hong Kong instead. That also means they won't have to travel that far if you want to bring them home to Manila. just saying.
