Yummy Curry at CoCo ICHIBANYA

SINGAPORE SERIES

I like curry. But I normally like the Japanese Curry with it's smooth taste and mild flavor (read: no pungent smell). As you've probably already noticed, one of my favorite malls in Singapore is 313@somerset, so when they have new restaurants that look interesting, I drag Tim to try it with me. One of the newly opened restaurants I wanted to try was Coco ICHIBANYA, it claims to be the largest curry chain in the world. They have around 1275 restaurants worldwide including branches in Japan, USA, Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, China and Thailand. The branch in 313@somerset is the first branch that they opened in Singapore.

The restaurant really calls your attention because they have a lot of yummy looking food shots all around the mall. We tried it with Sofia and all of us liked what we ordered.

CoCo ICHIBANYA is at Basement 3 of 313@somerset
They have an open restaurant concept with a lot of lifestyle shots on the walls

Their menu allows you to customize the level of spice of your curry sauce, they offer a lot of topping options, and you can also choose the size of your rice portion. The standard rice order is 250grams, you can add 100g at a time, with the biggest rice portion at 550g. For those like me who pretend not to eat a lot of carbs, you can reduce the rice to 150g and get a SG$1 discount.

Thin-Sliced Boiled Beef Curry SG$12.50 (Php426)
Pork Cutlet Curry SG$12.00 (Php408)
Add SG$2 for Spinach and another SG$2 for Cheese (Php68 each)
Upon ordering, our server warned us that the pork was a bit tough and he asked if we wanted to order the Chicken Cutlet instead, but I think we also had a Tonkatsu craving that night that we were trying to satisfy at the curry place, so we went ahead and still ordered the tough pork. It was well played on the server's part, because he warned us, we actually found the pork to be softer than we expected, but by no means can you compare it to the yummy tender Tonkatsu at Saboten, but let's leave that story for another day.

Fried Shrimp Curry with the sauce on the side for Fif SG$12.50 (Php426)

I will definitely go back and eat in this place again. BTW, it might be a good idea to order a double portion of the spinach if you like eating more veggies than carbs because if you order it once your meal is served, they will charge you also for additional curry sauce because the spinach can't be served without the sauce. Just Saying.

CoCo ICHIBANYA
