The first activity Sofia wanted to do when she opened her Breeze #SigeSabado Playbox, was to make a Tie-Dyed Shirt. You can read all about Breeze #SigeSabado and the Playbox here.
The first thing we did was we soaked the shirt in lukewarm water. |
Then we started mixing the dyes. Some websites said better to do in boiling water and salt, so this is what we did. Then we started mixing colors. |
We ended up with ROYGBV. All the colors in the rainbow. Then we tied up the shirt with rubber bands with the desired pattern. We wanted to start with simple, so horizontal stripes were okay. |
The next step includes carefully dipping the shirt in the dye. Best to start with lighter colors first, but it was easier for us to do things following the colors of the Rainbow. |
ROY - done! |
After dying, it sort of looked like OOYGBV. |
Then we wrapped both ends in Ice Bag before we put it in the sealed Freezer Bag so the colors wouldn't mix while we were waiting for the dye to be absorbed. |
We were quite happy with the almost-finished product, after we removed the rubber bands. |
But the instructions (and common sense) tells you, that you need to rinse off the excess dye...
So this is what we got instead. A lighter version, but nice and ombre-ish. |
And this is what we got. Tie Dye Fail!!! |
But being the Sige Mom that I am, I refused to accept defeat, so our Shirt Activity had a Part 2.
We decided to do some Crayola Spray Art using Fabric Pens. |
Sofia chose the designs she wanted to spray on before we started. |
Thank you Breeze for this cool #SigeSabado idea. Even if our version didn't quite work, it taught Sofia that you make things work by being creative. just saying.
