When I showed Sofia the pictures on Instagram, the first thing she wanted to do was make a Paper Dress for herself.
Since I didn't want to waste nice paper for our first experiment, I thought of using old magazines until we get the hang of it. I must say, it's quite simple to do, and the result was not too bad for our first effort.
Presenting Sofia, wearing an original Sofia Paper Gown Creation! |
Sof hamming it for the camera, and for her mirror selfie. |
Making faces in the mirror and showing off the gap from the tooth she just lost. |
This is our 2014 Cebupac Smiley Magazine Gown, accessorized with a wide red belt. |
Sofia was so happy with our project she told me I was a really good mommy. Hahaha. Now the challenge is thinking up more designs, ways and materials to execute them.
The only downside to a fitted paper gown is needing to be carried on the steps. But this is exercise for fat ninong. |
For this project, the only supplies we used was 1 old cebu pacific magazine +
clear packing tape, a set of the smallest fold back clips, and scissors. |
I couldn't figure out how #FashionbyMayhem close their paper dresses so that it can be reused again. #FashionbyMayhem has a website that I assume has tutorials or tips, however it is currently down because they got deluged with so much traffic after the article on them went viral. So we just improvised by using the fold back clips to hold them close for both the top and the skirt.
We just used 4 pages for the tube top, with half a page folded in. The skirt was made up of two pages lengthwise, with 4 pages for the upper layer, and 5 pages for the bottom layer to allow Sofia to be able to move. We just folded the sides in, so it looked like she had a slit at the back of the skirt to allow her some mobility.
I spent Php90 (US$2) on our supplies. It was such a steal for the entertainment value it provided. Thanks for the idea #FashionbyMayhem. just saying.
