Sonya's Garden Day Out with Grandma

Last Sunday, everyone who was free on my mother's side of the family took Grandma out on a day trip to Tagaytay. All the kaladkarin (can be dragged anywhere) cousins were present, together with Sofia and Lukey, to complete an outing with four generations.

Since Breakfast at Antonio's doesn't accept reservations, we decided to go to Sonya's instead to avoid the risk of having to wait for seats. We met up at SLEX around 1030am, and we made it to Sonya's just in time for lunch.

Then everyone jumped in. Four generations of Tansengco Women.
At Sonya's it's ok to arrive hungry, because you are immediately served their signature salad.
Flowers here aren't the centerpiece. They're the main meal.
Everything is so fresh, and I am assuming,
grown on site. It even comes with bugs (for Protein)!
Chow time!
This is my first serving of flowery greens.
I really love their "Secret Salad Dressing" and the way it goes with
Mangoes and Broad Beans.
Uncle Raymond wasn't too happy to see the salad,
so he just went directly to the pasta.
I haven't eaten in Sonya's in ages, but they used to serve you the pasta on the table, with different toppings or sauces, after the salad course. The set up is better now because they just have a buffet table with the Pasta and the dessert so you can go whenever you please. I remember I was never too impressed with the Pasta at Sonya's (in fact, I did not like it) and this hasn't changed.

They have noodles, salmon belly (with bones!!!), ratatouie, and shitake.
They also have a tomato sauce and white sauce with mango and chicken
(not pictured here).
I skipped the noodles altogether and just fished out some chicken chunks
from the mango cream sauce and some shitake.
You need to season heavily with parmesan and chili flakes as the taste
is overwhelmingly bland, and sweet (?!?). I am clearly not a fan!
I had my carbs in the form of half a slice of bread.
The anchovies adds more flavor to the bad pasta.
The pesto and tomato sauces were also good.
For dessert, you can get unlimited servings of kamote (sweet potato) or
turon (banana spring rolls).
We were almost done eating before the second half of our group
arrived.
Sofia was so happy when Lucas arrived!
Perfect timing because it was now time to play.
Sof took us to the greenhouse right beside the Sunflower dining area.
You can ask to eat here if you're planning a romantic date.
Sof was helping Lucas water the plants since the watering can was too
heavy for him.
We also had time to explore the other parts of Sonya's garden while
the others were still eating.
Lukey would get so gigil, Sofia would just shout
"Stop Kuriputing Me!" (she meant don't pinch me, but ends up
saying don't be stingy with me which had us all laughing)
Monster face! or should I say Dino face!

Here's a picture where you can see we're matchy-matchy.
Sof was her classmate and asked me to take their picture.
When the others finished, we all came back to have dessert,
and blow the cake for the Q1 celebrants. (Note: Ady is the silver Dino)
Everything in Sonya's is unlimited, except for the chocolate cake,
each person gets a thin slice like this to go with the tarragon tea.
Sofia got Taima to attempt to do Chocolate teeth smiles with her.

It was a bit unfortunate that it got really warm and humid when we were there, so Grandma wanted to go home after lunch and rest, while the rest of us kaladkarins were still willing to go to the Museo Orlina to explore more (but I'll blog about that in a separate post).

Thank you Deos team for the Instax Camera.
Sofia and I enjoyed our new toy.
We really had a lot of fun, we got to spend time with Grandma outside her house, and Sofia and Lukey really enjoyed running around everywhere. Sonya's Garden provides a good break from the hustle and bustle of the city, and their salad (and chocolate cake) is good enough to make up for their lousy pasta. just saying.
