Adventures in Ocean Park Hong Kong

This last trip to Hong Kong, I decided to take Sofia to Ocean Park because she's never been, she loves Them Parks (like Legoland which you can read about here and here) and she's already been to Disneyland Hong Kong (with my mom and Lola Celita) and Disneyland Paris with me (which you can read about here).

We asked Ninong Jacob if he wanted to go with us and he was supportive enough to agree. He even brought his friend Jeremy, so he could delegate the scarier rides.

The weather forecast for the four days we were in Hong Kong was for thunderstorms, so we went ahead with our plan to go, even if it was raining.

Our first stop was CTS travel, at the Hong Kong Macau Ferry Terminal, to buy discounted Ocean Park tickets. You can read my post on that here. It's worth the effort if you're going in a big group as the 18% discount becomes quite substantial.

The added bonus of passing for the discounted tickets at the HK Macau
Ferry Terminal is you get to buy the best Portuguese Egg Tarts in HK.
This was our pre-brunch snack.

The local boys, Jacob and Jeremy told us that the Ocean Park Food was over-priced and not good, so Jeremy invited us to brunch at the Hong Kong Country Club, a five minute walk from Ocean Park.
Ninong J and Sof, leading the way to lunch.
Sealing the bunk bed deal with a hug.
You can see Ocean Park from the Country Club.
A closer look at the Cable Cars.
The boys joined Sofia in the playground while we were waiting for our food.
There's a beautiful view of the water from the playground.
Jeremy ordered so much food for us! We were all stuffed.
We took our time eating since it was still raining anyway.
Thanks for brunch Jeremy!

After lunch, we just walked over to Ocean Park.
The best way to get a picture with no photobombers
is to come on a rainy day.
With our matching Uniqlo rain gear.
Our first stop was the Grand Aquarium because we wanted to get out
of the rain.
#ootd Matching Hard Rock Cafe shirts
and Bossini Shorts
Sofia in the Aquarium
In Maldives, it's common to swim with this shark.
Of course, Tim and I swam/ran away in a panic.
After the aquarium, we decided to make our way to the other end of the Island, to catch the Dolphin Show.
Approaching the other Island
We decided to go by Cable Car since there were no lines
Sof really enjoyed herself.
No fear of heights for this little girl.
You can see the dragon coaster from here.
We arrived at the Ocean Theater in time to save good seats.
It also stopped raining which was a good thing.
The Dolphins and Sea Lions.
They're even trained to wave good bye at the end of the show.

The next thing we did was go to the rides Sofia was allowed to go on, which was only the Raging River, on this part of the Island.
It's a long walk because this ride is at the end of the park,
but the line was manageable when we got there.
Ady and I were the official photographers.
So were able to scout out the best places to take pictures.
Sof enjoyed it so much she wanted to do it again,
but by then the lines were too long.
She was so proud she didn't get wet because she
had her rain jacket on.
Since the rides were quite far apart and everything
was uphill, our favorite ride was the escalator!
At Pacific Pier
Since it was so hot and humid after the rain, we needed a Snow Cone break.
I can see the appeal of the cool refreshing watermelon.
Then we caught the seals feeding time at the North Pole Encounter,
and we saw the Pacific Walrus.
We also visited the South Pole Encounter where you can get up close
with the Penguins. (Separate Package)
Sofia got close to the Ocean Park Mascots instead.
Sof was debating what Souvenir to buy, but I told her she already has
loads of Pencil Cases.
While the boys entertained themselves. #Mature
Sof decided to get a pressed penny instead for 10HKD and save the rest
of her money.
Our next stop was the carnival games.
Since we're not believers of Game of Chance, and throwing away our money,
we only play Sure Win games. Sof won herself a stuffed monkey in the
use a mipao (bean bag) to burst the balloon. I am impressed at the safety.
Since it was getting late, we had to go back to the other side of the Island because Jeremy had dinner commitments.
We decided to take the train instead of the Cable Car this time.
Selfie on the train.
We decided to explore this side of the Island, but only do the rides
for kids that did not have long lines.
First Stop: Sea Life Carousel
The wait was manageable and we could sit while waiting.
Then we walked through Old Hong Kong.
OMG Ninang! You're so heavy! Hahaha.
Our final stop for the day was Whiskers Harbour which had the more younger-kid friendly rides and activities.
Welcome to Whiskers Harbour
Sofia's favorite ride was the Frog Hopper.
It's the kid version of the ride with automatic drops.
We also did the small Ferris Wheel since she didn't want to go home yet.
The ride was pretty lame, but it offered quite a good view.
Frog Hopper
Playground and very small part of the bouncy castle to the right.
Hong Kong Country Club Swimming Pool
Hong Kong Country Club Garden and Playground
Sofia can't resist going on any playground, so she dragged Ninong
to play with her for a bit.
The tired ones can sit and watch from here.
After the playground, Sofia asked for some snacks because
she worked up an appetite.
The only thing we didn't get to do because we were too tired was visit
the pandas.
This is the fountain as we were leaving. If you do make it until 8pm in the
park, this is where they have the multi-media show including
fireworks, lights, sounds and animation.
Dolphin Balloons
Over-all we spent around 6 hours in Ocean Park, and we were dead tired on our way out. It's easy enough to get a taxi, but expect a short wait. There are more taxis going to Hong Kong Island vs Kowloon Island so if you're going to the other side, I suggest that you just take the shorter line and ask the cab driver to drop you off at the Star Ferry Terminal.
Sofia 5 minutes after getting into the cab.

Sofia had so much fun in Ocean Park, she already wants to go back. I heard they do Halloween very well so that may be something we'll consider for future plans. just saying.
