Hello Kitty Drama

Last week, we ate in McDonald's to be able to buy Hamburglar Kitty. Since then, we've waited for a week so we can go back and buy Grimace Kitty. Luckily, we had a working lunch and the fast food of choice was  McDonald's because their smoothies came highly recommended. I ordered 2 Grimace Kitties (to be billed separately... yay!)

Grimace x Hello Kitty = Grimace Kitty

The funny was, last weekend we dropped by the Hello Japan Flea Market, an event that they had at Liang Court, and we saw one man who had loads of the previous Hello Kitty and McDonald's collaboration for the millenium in 2000 when they had several Hello Kitty and Dear Daniel dolls available in different cultural wedding attire (Chinese, Malay, Japanese, Korean, Western and Space... as in astronauts). He was selling them for $5 per couple and when I asked why he had so much, he said they were so popular in 2000 that people lined up for them and fought over them so he hoarded a lot and now he decided to keep one pair each and sell the rest.

Sofia picking out her dolls. We got four couples for SG$20.
Chinese, Japanese, Malay and Korean.
I was as happy as this little girl.

Out of curiosity, I googled it... McDonald's had a similar scheme where you can buy a Hello Kitty or Dear Daniel doll for SG$2.60 with every purchase of a Value Meal. The dolls sold out in hours, and every week there would be more riots and injuries. You can check it out here. Hahahaha... and all because they thought they could sell it for more.

I can imagine... it must have looked something like this 12 years ago.
Just to get the kitty.
Don't worry Anna, we braved the chaos to get you one!

Well, there's a lesson somewhere here for a hoarder like me... wait until the hoarder who fought for the Hello Kitty sells it in the flea market, then buy all of his stock for less than what it originally cost! Then post it on ebay!

I tried to ask for a discount but the guy said he got hurt lining up for them 12 years ago.
But he agreed when I asked for one free since this one didn't have a pair.
This is for Uncle Man - Congratulations to you and Cha!
I told Sofia she could only open one couple at a time.
She was very happy with them until she realize they sort of stink like a real antique.
Hahaha. She's not asking me to open any more pairs.

Maybe there's a chance for them on ebay after all. Hahaha. Just Saying.
