International Museum Day 2012

SINGAPORE SERIES

Last weekend, we visited loads of museums that were celebrating International Museum Day

We did the Marco Polo trail at the Asian Civilizations Museum.

Our first stop was the ACM museum.

Sofia and the Museum Trail activity.
The ACM looks so different without all the Halloween revelers in costume.
Sofia said - Mom, let's pretend I'm selling you jewelry.
Great choice! You definitely know what I will buy.
You need to find 10 things around the museum then answer the questions correctly.
The interactive design of East Asia.
There are really parts where you can sit and play with the display.
Sofia and Yaya in the Indonesia farm display.
Sofia loves projected lights.
Look mom, it's on my arm.
The last item was hard to find because we didn't expect to be looking for shadow puppets.
They give you a prize when you finish the trail. Sofia got 2 ACM magnets and 1 lanyard.

The space in front of ACM is really nice because it's by the river (leading to Boat Quay).
Cavanaugh Bridge leading to The Fullerton Hotel.
The less photographed side of The Fullerton Hotel.
It was a lovely day to walk to Boat Quay for taking pictures.
Otherwise, it was just TOO HOT!
Shot in vivid with the Canon S95.
Sofia loves riding the Boat Taxi, when I let her,
we just take it for one stop to Clarke Quay.
By the statues in front of Indochine with Boat Quay in the background.

It was such a hot day so we stopped by the museum beside the Fire Station. We are regulars there so Sofia no longer counts that as visiting a museum.

Doing the stencils. Her favorite activity there.
I was so tired so I was just waiting.

We then headed to the Singapore Philatelic Museum nearby. Sofia's class is planning a field trip to visit it while we're in Vietnam. Too bad she won't be there to play tour guide to her classmates.

The Philatelic Museum celebrates International Museum Day.
Entrance was free because of IMD but they didn't have any activities or trails. I am getting to be pretty demanding. Hahaha. So note to self: It's better to go on Open House Weekends.

Sofia enjoyed anyway with their Message Me - interactive exhibit.
She also loves the dragon exhibit, but they didn't have any more of the postcards to color in.
Little Drummer Girl.
Entering the dragon's lair.
This is also one of Fif's favorite museums.
Digging for dino fossils.
Found some.
Mom terrorizing Fif with the fossil I found. Hahaha.
Taking a rest before we went out in the heat again.

We took a short cut through the MICA Building, also known as my favorite building with ROYGBIV windows on the corner across Clarke Quay on River Valley and Hill Street.

I didn't know it used to be the Hill Street Police Station.

When we got home after three museums... Sofia wanted to cool down by jumping into the pool!

We brought the dino but all the neighbors wanted to borrow it!
We just asked yaya to bring down the rest of our pool toys so we could share.

Three museums + a swim = Peace and Quiet for mom and yaya... FINALLY!

A lot of museums still have OPEN HOUSE weekends scheduled for Children's Season (until 24June 2012). You can check out the details here.
