Wagyu Dinner FTW

One of my closest friends, Tim (he's the one who wanted to be our slave since our University days and the friend I dragged to Maldives) cooked a super yummy Wagyu Steak dinner for us yesterday. I chanced upon his drool worthy post on Facebook where he posted the Wagyu Steak dinner he cooked for his flatmates last weekend so I badgered him to cook another Wagyu dinner while I was in town.

I love Tim because he's so easy to badger. Hahaha... So Wagyu dinner it is!!!

Before that, my daughter also badgered him too into seeing her off at the airport. One of Sofia's not so well-kept secrets is that her favorite Godfather is thin Ninong Tim, that's because she can wrap him around her little finger. So after we brought Sofia to the airport, I dragged Tim with me to check out Changi City Point Mall (the shopping fail I wrote about here). The only things we came home with were ingredients for Three Mushroom Risotto that we got from Cold Storage (read: expensive) but we discovered a specialty meat store called Mmmm Meats, Marinates and Much More that had cheapER Wagyu Steak. Tim, who fully paid for and prepared our dinner really gets upset when I mention that we bought the CHEAP Wagyu Steak... he says there was nothing cheap about our steak, it was just CHEAPer by atleast SG$6 for 100g compared to the Wagyu steak they had the week before, which is a lot!

The Wagyu Steak at Mmmm ranges in price from SG$7.99-SG$13.25 per 100grams depending on the level of marbling that you get. The higher the marbling level, the more fat, therefore the juicier and more tender the steak will be. Since they had a promotion for the 6/7 Marbling Level (sold at SG$7.99, the price of the lowest marbling level of 4/5) that's what we got. The store recommends that you get atleast a two centimeter thick steak. The steaks prepared for us looked gigantic! The sales attendant will also ask you when you plan to cook the meat and if you want them to marinade it for you. They had a lot of spices to choose from, but since we prefer crack pepper and sea salt, we opted to do it ourselves at home. yay! we bought steak on sale at the outlet mall, so it wasn't an EPIC FAIL... hahahaha.

We didn't realize that the Arborio rice for the Risotto is not readily available in Singapore, so after Cold Storage, we went to a Park N Shop and a FairPrice, finally settling on some Medium Size Grain Japanese Rice when we were unable to find any. It still turned out good, maybe because I was supervising. Hahaha.

Tim also prepared fresh asparagus cooked in olive oil to make our meal just the tiniest bit healthier, and we capped it off with fresh strawberries dipped in sweetened whipped cream for dessert.

I hope Tim cooks Wagyu steak every weekend. Hahahaha. Just Saying.

You can visit their website here

To give you an indication of the steak price, I think Tim paid around SG$150 for six large pieces of steak. There were six of us at dinner and we were only able to finish five pieces of steak, and we were all stuffed to the brim.
