SINGAPORE SERIES
Our favorite Hainanese Chicken Rice place in Singapore is the Chicken Rice Ex-Press in Killiney, partly because it was only a few minutes away from our home, but also because their Chicken Rice is good enough that we don't feel like we need to go to the trouble of going all the way to Tian Tian in Chinatown just to enjoy Hainanese Chicken Rice.
Tian Tian's claim to fame is that it was featured in Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations. You can read my post on Chinatown where I mentioned it here.
We brought our guests to have Chicken Rice because they arrived in time for a late dinner. We normally eat here when we just arrive in Singapore or when we're about to leave. |
You can see the chicken (and other meat) hanging on display. |
My standard order is the Chicken Rice Meal for SG$6.50 (around Php200) It includes veggies, hainanese Rice, white (or soy Chicken) and lime (or barley) drink. |
I like this place because they have generous chicken servings (compared to the other coffee shops). |
We ordered a side of Char Siew (BBQ Pork) for SG$3 (Php100). |
Sofia loves Chicken Rice so much she can feed herself if you cut the chicken in small pieces. |
Welcome to Singapore Auntie Terry and Tiana! |
The Chicken Rice Ex-Press has just recently renovated. It looks much cleaner now and they have framed pictures of their dishes on the walls. Sofia also likes their wanton noodle with char siew dish. They also have expanded the restaurant with tables in what used to be part of their back kitchen. It's definitely one of our go to places for an emergency meal or a chicken rice fix.
